Your future is too bright to cheat – Asunafo North MP urges BECE candidates to choose integrity – Nsemkeka
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Asunafo North in the Ahafo region, Haruna Mohammed, is urging students across his constituency to uphold integrity as they sit for their final examinations.
The MP has strongly advised against examination malpractices in this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), stressing that success must be earned through hard work and discipline.
Addressing a gathering of final-year students at Mim, Goaso, Mr Haruna Mohammed encouraged the candidates to approach their exams with confidence and honesty.
The Asunafo North legislator visited final year students in the constituency to inspire, and donate educational materials to them ahead of this year’s examination, where a total of 3,426 will write the BECE.
Mr Haruna Mohammed noted that cheating in exams not only undermines the education system but also destroys the moral foundation of the next generation.
The MP’s advice comes at a time when education authorities and examination council are intensifying efforts to clamp down on malpractice, which continues to threaten the credibility of Ghana’s examination system.
Ahafo, Bono and Bono East regions have been in the news as hotsport areas in the country interms of examination malpractices as indicated by WAEC, portraying a very bad image for the three regions.
“You are the future of this constituency and this country. No dream is achieved through shortcuts. Let your success be based on your own efforts and determination” he emphasised.
Mr Haruna Mohammed also assured the students of his continued support and pledged to improve educational infrastructure and learning materials to enhance academic performance in the constituency.
He stated that “We will continue to invest in your future through scholarships, improved school facilities, and teacher support. But we need you to play your part with integrity”.
The Law-Maker emphasised the commitment of the John Mahama administration to enhance quality teaching and learning in pre-tertiary institutions including the free SHS notably, the free sanitary pads for girls in SHS.
Joseph Akparibo, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Asunafo North and a former teacher, implored parents and teachers to desist from aiding in the exams malpractices to safeguard the integrity of the examination and the municipality.
He stressed that students and other residents do not respect teachers and invigilators who aide in examination malpractices noting that it could ruin the entire professional career of those who engaged in it.
The MCE added that he and his MP will collaborate to reward every student who will excel in the BECE saying that “this will act as a motivation for academic excellence in the area”.
The Municipal Director of Education, Samuel Jatong Laar, noted that the candidates have been fully oriented on the examination, invigilators and security details are in place.
He assured that the Asunafo North Municipality is fully prepared for this year’s BECE to ensure a well-structured and credible examination.
With final exams just a day away, the MP’s message serves as a timely reminder to students to hold fast to their values and trust in their preparation.
