Vice President Jane Opoku-Agyemang arrives home after full recovery – Nsemkeka
Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has returned to Ghana after fully recovering from a recent illness that kept her away from public duties for several weeks.
Her arrival was met with a warm reception at the Kotoka International Airport, where she was welcomed by President John Dramani Mahama and First Lady Lordina Mahama. They were joined by Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, Finance Minister Dr. Ato Forson, and other high-ranking government officials.
President Mahama confirmed her return during a stop on his “Thank You Tour” in Dodowa, Greater Accra Region, on Friday, May 16. He expressed deep gratitude for the Vice President’s recovery, describing it as a relief for both the government and the Ghanaian public.
“I’m happy to announce that Vice President Naana Jane is back home after her medical leave and is ready to resume her official duties,” President Mahama said to an enthusiastic crowd.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang reportedly fell ill on Friday, March 28, 2025, and was admitted to the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) the following day for treatment. On medical advice, she began a three-week medical leave on April 7 and travelled abroad for further care as a precaution.
Sources close to the Presidency say she is in good spirits and is expected to return to the public stage in the coming days.
Her return has reignited excitement within the National Democratic Congress (NDC), with many supporters viewing it as a strong signal of unity and renewed momentum as the government forges ahead with its development agenda.
