University of Ghana Disowns Viral Letter on Malik Basintale’s Degree Verification – GhArticles.com

The University of Ghana has officially distanced itself from a viral letter circulating on social media purporting to verify the academic credentials of Malik Basintale, Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA).

The letter, allegedly signed by Registrar Mrs. Emelia Agyei-Mensah, and dated May 27, 2025, claimed to confirm Mr. Basintale’s degree status in a response addressed to the Secretary of the Civil Service Council. However, the University has now declared the document a forgery.

In a formal statement, the University’s management clarified that neither the Registrar nor any other authorized officer had received, processed, or issued any such verification request or response.

To reinforce the University’s position, a separate letter dated June 2, 2025, signed by Dr. Elizier Taiba Ameyaw-Buronyah, Director of the Public Affairs Directorate, urged the public to disregard the forged letter in its entirety.

The University’s swift response comes amid growing scrutiny over the authenticity of academic qualifications of public officials, a matter that continues to trigger public debate and legal interest in Ghana.

As of now, there has been no official statement from Malik Basintale or the YEA addressing the circulating document or the University’s denial.
