SHIRLEY FRIMPONG-MANSO MAKES THEATRE DIRECTORIAL DEBUT WITH “HONEYMOON HOTEL” – Nsemkeka
Award-winning filmmaker Shirley Frimpong-Manso is set to make her highly anticipated theatre directorial debut with the stage play Honeymoon Hotel, produced by Africa Arts Network. The play will run from June 20 to 22, 2025, at the National Theatre in Accra.
Adapted and directed by Shirley from the original script by playwright Stephen Yaw Oppong, Honeymoon Hotel is a witty romantic dramedy set in a luxury hotel celebrating love—though not everything is as perfect as it seems. The story unfolds as guests arrive carrying secrets and the hotel staff manage their own complicated relationships, mixing chaos with comedy.
The production features a stellar cast including Joselyn Dumas, James Gardiner, Ama K. Abebrese, Godwin Namboh, Andrew Tandoh-Adote, Gadede Segbefia, David Dontoh, Jasmine Baroudi, Amanda Jissih, among other celebrated stage and screen actors.
Shirley Frimpong-Manso expressed her excitement about transitioning from film to theatre, describing the experience as “raw, immediate, and alive” and promising a sensational show full of drama, humour, and surprises.
Africa Arts Network, known for recent theatrical successes such as In the Chest of a Woman and You Play Me, I Play You, aims to push the boundaries of Ghanaian theatre with this fresh and contemporary production. Kofi Adinkra, founder of the network, emphasized that Shirley’s involvement elevates the artistic standards and will help bridge the gap between film and stage, attracting new audiences and boosting the commercial viability of theatre in Ghana.
Honeymoon Hotel is expected to attract nearly 9,000 attendees over three days, making it one of the cultural highlights of the year.
