‘Rich’ Wontumi Can Afford GHS50m Bail – Bongo MP – GhArticles.com
Charles Bawaduah, Member of Parliament for Bongo, has expressed confidence that Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, can meet the GHS50 million bail conditions imposed by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), is being investigated over financial dealings involving COCOBOD and EXIM Bank. As part of the bail conditions, he must provide two sureties. His legal team, led by MP and lawyer Andy Appiah-Kubi, is currently working to meet those conditions.
His lawyers have denied any wrongdoing in relation to payments from COCOBOD, stating that all transactions under review were legitimate.
In an interview on Channel One TV’s *The Point of View* with Bernard Avle, MP Bawaduah said he believes Wontumi’s financial status should make it easy for him to fulfill the bail terms.
“I’m not sure Wontumi, as we know him, is incapable of owning properties worth GHS50 million. I’m sure he will. Executing or satisfying a bail condition of GHS50 million should not be a problem. But the processes are quite different. I’m sure that is what he’s trying to clear and get out,” Bawaduah remarked.
As of now, Wontumi remains in EOCO custody while steps are being taken to fulfill the bail requirements.
