Revoking Nyaho-Tamakloe’s ‘founding member’ status likely to be considered at NPP NEC meeting – JFK – Nsemkeka
The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua, has publicly distanced the party from recent remarks made by Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, warning that the former diplomat could face disciplinary action, including the possible revocation of his status as a founding member.
This comes after Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, criticised the party’s leadership over its handling of the arrest of Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.
Reacting to how the arrest of the Chairman has been handled so far, he declared that the party currently “has no leadership.”
Speaking in an interview on JoyNews on Friday, Mr Kodua expressed disappointment over Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe’s conduct, arguing that his recent commentary does not reflect the principles and values expected of a founding figure within the party.
“As a founding member of our party, we expect him to be part of the National Council of Elders, providing wise counsel to the rank and file—not becoming a disruptive voice,” Mr Kodua said.
“That is not the hallmark of a founding member of a political party.”
The NPP’s leadership, he noted, considers Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe’s public posture to be unhelpful at a time when the party is focused on internal reorganisation and national cohesion ahead of the 2024 general elections.
“We have several founding members, and none behave in this manner. At this critical moment, we need positive energy,” he added.
Mr Kodua revealed that the issue would be raised at the party’s upcoming National Council meeting, where disciplinary actions, including the possibility of stripping Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe of his founding member status, may be considered.
“This is something I intend to pursue at our next National Council meeting. If it involves removing his founding member status, because as a party we don’t need this type of behaviour at this material moment,” he stated.
