“Prez. John Mahama, You Weren’t Elected to Carry Out Rambo-Style Arrests” – Nana B on Wontumi’s Arrest – GhArticles.com
Henry Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana B and the National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has criticized the manner in which Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, alias Chairman Wontumi, was arrested, describing it as excessive and reminiscent of lawless tactics.
Speaking to the press on Tuesday, May 27, Nana B condemned the arrest as “backward and brutish,” stating that Wontumi had earlier complied with an invitation from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), where he was questioned regarding alleged illegal mining and unauthorized entry into protected forest reserves.
“After cooperating with investigators and being granted bail, Wontumi was forcibly re-arrested by heavily armed men in four pickup trucks right outside the CID headquarters,” Nana B recounted. “It felt like a scene from an action movie, not how a lawful state should behave.”
He questioned the alignment of such tactics with President John Mahama’s democratic promises, warning that such aggressive law enforcement actions erode public trust in governance.
“Is this the leadership President Mahama pledged to Ghanaians?” Nana B asked. “We all support accountability, but not at the cost of civility and due process.”
He further criticized EOCO for failing to communicate Wontumi’s status, claiming party leaders waited over two hours without any formal update on his whereabouts or legal condition.
