MTN prioritises digital inclusion to empower SMEs and boost growth

MTN Ghana is placing digital inclusion at the heart of its strategy to empower Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and equip the youth with essential digital skills to compete in an increasingly globalised economy, Chief Executive Officer Stephen Blewett has said.
Speaking at this year’s MTN Editors’ Stakeholder Engagement in Tamale, which brought together participants from four of the five northern regions, Mr. Blewett emphasised the company’s commitment to fostering inclusive growth through strategic digital investments.
“We are making digital inclusion a cornerstone of our strategy to empower SMEs and equip our youth with the skills needed to become tomorrow’s leaders,” he stated.
To this end, MTN is investing significantly in critical infrastructure, including the expansion of data centres, enhancements to its core network, increased fibre rollout, and the integration of sustainable solar energy solutions.
“Connectivity is only meaningful if it is accessible to all. We are simultaneously investing in the infrastructure of tomorrow — expanding data centres, upgrading our core network, increasing fibre coverage, and adopting solar energy to ensure long-term sustainability,” he added.
Highlighting the importance of digital empowerment, especially among Africa’s youthful population, Mr. Blewett noted that MTN is laying 130 kilometres of resilient fibre infrastructure to mitigate frequent fibre cuts, which have been a major challenge for business customers.
“Our initiatives and investments underscore our dedication to connecting people, enriching lives, and building a sustainable future where everyone has the opportunity to progress,” he said.
The company is also intensifying rural network coverage through strategic partnerships, including ongoing collaborations with the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC).
“We will continue to aggressively expand our digital infrastructure to power connectivity and drive economic growth in this region,” Mr. Blewett reiterated.
He further affirmed MTN’s commitment to making a direct impact in communities through targeted development programmes that aim to transform lives.
The General Manager for the Northern Business District, Nii Adotey Mingle, commended the media for their vital role in shaping public discourse and supporting MTN’s vision.
“As key partners in our journey, your role in informing and shaping public discourse is invaluable. Today’s engagement demonstrates how much we value that partnership,” he said.
“At MTN, we believe in the benefits of a modern connected life for everyone, everywhere. That includes ensuring our communities are not only connected but also empowered through information and engagement.”
The forum was designed to provide updates on MTN’s progress and strategic direction, while also offering a platform for the media to share feedback and insights aimed at improving services.
“We are in a rapidly evolving digital era, and as a tech-driven business, MTN continues to invest in our network, digital platforms, and communities. But real impact happens when we work together and engage meaningfully with the people and institutions that tell our story,” Mr. Mingle added.
