Lands Minister Showers Praise On IGP Yohuno For His Contributions In The Fight Against Illegal Mining In Ghana  – GhArticles.com

The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has commended Inspector General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno for his strong leadership in the ongoing fight against illegal mining, at the recent Global Mining Summit. He highlighted recent police operations in areas like Samreboi and parts of the Western and Ashanti regions as key to dismantling galamsey activities and restoring calm in affected communities.

In the past four to five months, the Ghana Police Service has stepped up its operations, arresting illegal miners—both local and foreign—and seizing equipment used in the destruction of forest lands. These efforts, carried out alongside the Forestry Commission and other security agencies, have led to the recovery of several forest reserves and disrupted organized galamsey networks across the country.

The Minister pledged continued collaboration with the police and emphasized the need for sustained political and logistical support. He noted that under IGP Yohuno’s leadership, the police have become a crucial force in protecting Ghana’s environment and enforcing mining laws, calling the ongoing gains a turning point in the fight against illegal mining.
