‘I see myself preaching God’s word’ – Afenyo-Markin eyes ministry after politics | Nsemkeka

Minority Leader Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin has disclosed his long-standing ambition to enter the ministry after his political career.

The Effutu Member of Parliament reflected on his enduring spiritual calling and personal journey, emphasising his unwavering commitment to faith.

In a recent interview with broadcaster Kafui Dey, Afenyo-Markin revealed his aspiration to pursue ministry work.

If I stop being a politician today, one thing I’m certain of doing is going into ministry. I have been dreaming about it. I see myself preaching the word of God.

The legislator attributed his resilience to years of spiritual discipline, including prayer and fasting—a practice he adopted during his formative years at St Augustine’s College.

I have experienced my God, so when I see crises, it doesn’t shake me.

He remarked, underscoring his steadfast belief in divine guidance.

Recounting his early struggles, Afenyo-Markin shared anecdotes from his time working as a bus conductor, locally known as a “mate”, and the support he received from friends despite his modest background.

My friends didn’t look down on me because I was from a poor home

He also paid tribute to his stepfather’s profound influence on his spiritual development, recalling,

I remember when I was going to secondary school; he would hold my hand, pray for me, and weep.

While firmly established in Ghana’s political arena, Afenyo-Markin sees no contradiction between governance and faith. He believes that public service and evangelism can coexist.

“As a politician, nothing should stop me from sharing the word of God with people.”

Afenyo-Markin is a lawyer and politician, and has been serving as the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Effutu constituency in the Central Region since 2013.
