The Ho High Court has convicted and sentenced seven individuals involved in the 2020 armed robbery and killing of former Sogakope Assembly Member, Marcus Mawutor Adzahli.
Presiding over the case, Justice John Ekow Mensah delivered the ruling on May 22, 2025. Three of the accused, Richard Adikyere, Stephen Adzibolo, and Emmanuel Hedzro, were found guilty of both robbery and murder. Adikyere was handed a life sentence, while Adzibolo and Hedzro received 47-year jail terms each.
Four others, Samuel Kofi Zotorvi, Christian Zotorvi, Michael Sam, and Obed Ayornu, pleaded guilty during the trial. Samuel and Christian Zotorvi were sentenced to 15 years each, while Michael Sam and Obed Ayornu received 20-year terms.
Details of the court’s decision were outlined in a statement by the Volta Regional Police Command’s Public Affairs Unit, signed by DSP Felix Danku. The convicts are currently serving their sentences at the Ho Central Prisons.
The brutal incident occurred on March 1, 2020, when the armed assailants broke into Mr. Adzahli’s Sogakope home using cement blocks. Armed with a pump-action shotgun and two pistols, one reportedly stolen during a previous robbery, they shot him multiple times at close range, targeting his head and chest. A post-mortem at the Sogakope District Hospital confirmed the fatal gunshot wounds.
The attackers also stole a large sum of money during the invasion. Police investigations, including a confession by Richard Adikyere admitting to firing the fatal shots, led to the arrest of all suspects across various locations, including Ashaiman.
