GFA docks Nations 3 points for abandoning match, awards victory to Basake Holy Stars – Nsemkeka
The Disciplinary Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has ruled in favour of Basake Holy Stars FC following the abrupt end of their penultimate 2024/25 Ghana Premier League match against Nations FC, awarding a 3-0 win to the former while imposing multiple sanctions on Nations FC.
In its ruling sighted by JoySports and signed by the Committee Chairman, Osei Kwadwo Adow, Esq., the Committee upheld the protest filed by Basake Holy Stars, declaring that Nations FC was responsible for the disruption that led to the match being called off.
Consequently, the Committee dismissed a counter-protest filed by Nations FC.
According to the GFA Premier League Regulations cited in the decision, Nations FC was found guilty of initiating acts that led to the abandonment of the match.
In line with Article 33(1)(b), the club is deemed to have forfeited the match and is considered to have lost it by three goals to nil in accordance with Articles 33(2) and 34(12).
As a result, three points and three goals have been awarded to Basake Holy Stars FC, significantly boosting their position on the league table.
In addition to the forfeiture, Nations FC will suffer a further three-point deduction from their accumulated points in the ongoing season, pursuant to Article 33(5)(a) of the GFA Premier League Regulations.
Furthermore, the club has been slapped with a fine of GH₵2,500. Half of the amount — GH₵1,250 — will be paid to Basake Holy Stars FC, in line with Article 33(5)(b), with the remainder going to the GFA.
The Disciplinary Committee also directed the GFA Prosecutor to launch an investigation into the reports submitted by match officials and prosecute all individuals found culpable in the incident.
The Committee reminded all parties that any dissatisfaction with the ruling must be addressed by appealing to the GFA Appeals Committee within one day of notification.
