A late-night fire on Saturday, June 7, 2025, has ravaged a mechanic shop near the SDA Church in Kintampo, Bono East Region, destroying at least 15 motorbikes, a commercial fufu pounding machine, and a wooden structure.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) responded swiftly to the scene and was able to contain the fire within minutes, preventing it from spreading to adjacent shops and residential structures.
Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were recorded.
Preliminary investigations suggest the fire may have been caused by an electrical fault or flammable materials that were left unattended. However, the exact cause remains under investigation.
In a statement following the incident, the GNFS reiterated its call for strict adherence to fire safety measures, especially among artisans and shop owners. They emphasized the importance of installing fire extinguishers, using certified electrical wiring, and avoiding the storage of flammable substances in unsecured areas.
The incident adds to growing concerns about fire safety in commercial zones, as authorities continue to urge the public to remain vigilant and proactive in fire prevention.
