Energy Ministry Traces 2,637 ECG Containers After Audit – GhArticles.com
The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has made significant progress in its investigation into the saga of missing containers belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), revealing that 2,637 containers have been successfully traced.
This development, which more than doubles the initial figure of 1,300 containers reported missing in March 2025, has reignited public interest and scrutiny.
Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on Tuesday, May 27, Richmond Rockson, Head of Communications at the Ministry, clarified the discrepancies surrounding the missing containers and outlined the steps taken to uncover the truth.
He explained that during the transitional period, approximately 3,000 ECG containers were flagged as uncleared at the ports. However, the newly appointed Energy Minister was later informed that about 2,500 containers remained unaccounted for, prompting him to order a comprehensive audit.
“The minister was receiving conflicting figures, so he ordered an investigation to determine the actual number of missing containers,” Rockson said.
The audit eventually identified a total of 2,637 containers, with 2,583 now confirmed to be in the custody of port authorities.
Rockson noted that the investigation has helped reconcile the inconsistencies in ECG’s inventory records and emphasized the importance of continuing the probe.
“There is a possibility that more containers could be discovered if the investigation is allowed to proceed,” he added.
