ECG Appears Before Parliament Over Power Supply and Financial Woes – GhArticles.com

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) is appearing before the Energy Committee of Parliament today, Friday, May 16, 2025, to respond to growing concerns over the nation’s power supply challenges and the company’s financial crisis.

This follows revelations by the Minister of Energy and Green Transition, John Jinapor, who disclosed that the energy sector is grappling with a monthly funding gap of GH¢2 billion, largely attributed to ECG’s inability to collect sufficient revenue.

During the parliamentary session, ECG’s management is expected to provide clarity on its operations, revenue collection issues, and steps being taken to stabilize power distribution across the country.

Chairman of the Energy Committee, Emmanuel Bedzrah, speaking to Citi News, said the committee is currently engaging all key stakeholders in the energy sector to uncover the root causes of the ongoing power crisis.

“We are reviewing their work, plans, and vision for the sector. ECG is the final distributor of power to homes and businesses. The generators claim they have adequate capacity, and the transmitters have also briefed us. So now, ECG must explain why power is not reaching Ghanaians,” he said.

The Energy Committee’s ongoing probe aims to determine the exact source of the setbacks within the power supply chain, with ECG expected to provide vital information that could help address the recurring outages.
