British Passenger in Seat 11A Survives Deadly Air India Crash – GhArticles.com

A British national seated in 11A has reportedly survived a devastating Air India plane crash that killed at least 200 people, according to Indian authorities.

Ahmedabad Police Commissioner GS Malik confirmed to news agency ANI that the sole survivor of the crash was seated in 11A on the London-bound Boeing 787-8. The passenger was identified as Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, a British citizen.

According to Indian media, Mr. Ramesh spoke from his hospital bed, recounting the terrifying moment of the crash. “Thirty seconds after take-off, there was a loud noise and then the plane crashed. It all happened so quickly,” he said. Reports added that he had shared his boarding pass to confirm his seat number and identity.

Air India stated that the aircraft, which was heading to Gatwick Airport in London, was carrying 242 passengers, including 169 Indian nationals, 53 Britons, seven Portuguese citizens, and one Canadian. The plane crashed into a residential facility used by doctors shortly after take-off from Ahmedabad Airport.

The UK Royal Family expressed their sorrow in a statement: “We are desperately shocked by the terrible events in Ahmedabad this morning. Our special prayers and deepest possible sympathy are with the families and friends of all those affected by this appallingly tragic incident across so many nations.”

UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy addressed the House of Commons, confirming that British nationals were aboard the flight. He stated that the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) had activated crisis teams in both Delhi and London to provide support to the victims’ families.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the crash, as emergency response teams continue recovery efforts at the scene. Authorities say Mr. Ramesh remains in hospital under medical care.
