Black Rockets claim three gold medals at African Youth Boxing Championship – Nsemkeka

Team Ghana claimed success at the 2025 African Youth Boxing Championship in Conakry, Guinea, with three gold medals to their name.

The Black Rockets clinched the medals through Gideon Pappoe, George Dowuona, and Mathias Ashitey.

Pappoe clinched the third gold medal for Ghana when he knocked out his South African opponent Mighty Sangoni in the 2nd round of the Men’s Middleweight-75Kg.

The Black Rockets had won two (2) Gold from Ashitey(Flyweight-51Kg) and Dowouna (Bantamweight-54Kg).

Dowouna won Ghana’s second gold medal against his Ethiopian opponent Ydnrnkachew Korabachew in the men’s Bantamweight.

The Black Rockets’ impressive showing marks the beginning of a fresh era for boxing in Ghana, drawing strength from the storied Bukom community—renowned for producing no fewer than eight world champions.

Their journey to the finals also highlights a broader revival, driven by the Ghana Boxing Federation and the Ministry of Sports. With initiatives like the soon-to-launch Amateur Boxing League, the focus is clearly on grooming the next generation of boxing talent through strategic youth development.
