Atwima Nwabiagya South MCE takes steps to reclaim degraded lands through tree planting – Nsemkeka

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Atwima Nwabiagya South in the Ashanti region, Patrick Osei Boamah, has announced plans to reclaim degraded lands in the municipality under the government’s ‘Tree for Life’ project.

According to him, large tracts of land have been devastated by illegal miners, and the municipality is working to restore these areas through tree planting.

The “Tree for Life” project was launched by President Mahama on March 25, 2025, as June was declared as a reforestation month.

The MCE led the assembly and the Forestry Commission in planting trees in some areas to mark the World Environment Day.

Mr. Boamah urged residents to support the initiative, suggesting that if each person plants two trees, it would significantly contribute to greening the environment.

He also vowed to crack down on those destroying the environment and natural resources, calling on traditional leaders and residents to support the effort.

The Forestry Commission Director for Atwima Nwabiagya South, Abraham Essel, invited individuals to visit their office for free tree seedlings, while private companies can discuss bulk purchases.

He assured that the Commission would ensure the survival of the planted trees.
