African child and youth migration: Experts rally to address youth migration crisis – Nsemkeka
Amid growing concerns about youth migration across Africa, a global conference in Accra is turning the spotlight on the stories behind the statistics.
The African Child and Youth Migration Conference is calling on the government to stem the movement of young people in search of better opportunities abroad.
A former Government Statistician and Chair of the Ghana Statistical Service, Dr. Grace Bediako, urged the government to “prioritise children and youth on the move, calling for increased awareness and the strengthening of data systems to ensure lasting solutions”.
Dr. Aloysius Maduforo from the University of Calgary emphasised that research must go beyond awareness; “it must trigger meaningful policy change.”
The African Child and Youth Migration Conference serves as a platform for uniting experts, policymakers, and young migrants with a common goal to shape stronger, more inclusive policies with a lasting impact.
