AFIA SCHWARZENEGGER REPORTS GHANAIAN TV STATION TO TYLER PERRY – Nsemkeka
Ghanaian media personality Afia Schwarzenegger has reportedly reached out directly to American filmmaker Tyler Perry, raising concerns over unauthorized broadcasts of his movies on Ghanaian national television.
In a voice note shared via Instagram Direct Message to Tyler Perry, Afia Schwarzenegger urged the Hollywood producer to intervene and protect his intellectual property rights. She highlighted the widespread illegal airing of Tyler Perry’s films on Ghanaian TV channels, which she claims is negatively impacting revenue and viewership on legitimate streaming platforms like Netflix.
“You just have to find me some small $1 million and I’ll pack it because I’m helping you. You know the number of people from Ghana that were going to watch your movie on Netflix, but they are now watching it for free on national TV, not even on any better station, just some low-quality channel,” Afia stated in the message.
She implored Tyler Perry to consider appointing her as his African agent to assist in tackling these infringements, emphasizing her willingness to take action against unauthorized broadcasts.
“Tyler, wake up, man. You need me. You need me. You need me. Let me be your African agent and arrest people for you. God bless you, bro,” she added.
This appeal underscores ongoing challenges faced by international content creators in protecting their work from unauthorized use in foreign markets. The unauthorized airing of content undermines subscription services and reduces revenue streams critical for producers and distributors.
As yet, Tyler Perry has not publicly responded to Afia Schwarzenegger’s message. The situation raises important questions about copyright enforcement and media regulation within Ghana’s broadcasting landscape.
