OKESS Student and Stepfather Granted GH¢80,000 Bail Over Unlawful Firearm Possession – GhArticles.com
A District Court in Mamponteng, Kwabre East Municipality, has granted bail totalling GH¢80,000 to a student of Osei Kyeretwie Senior High School (OKESS) and his stepfather in a case involving unlawful possession of a firearm.
The student was granted GH¢50,000 bail, while his stepfather, Daniel Owusu Baafia pastor, was granted GH¢30,000 bail. Both are required to provide two sureties, one of whom must be a government employee or senior staff member with a minimum monthly salary of GH¢4,000 for the student, and GH¢3,000 for the stepfather.
The two were arrested after a locally manufactured pistol was found in the student’s possession on campus on May 14, 2025. The assistant headmaster of the school promptly reported the matter to the police.
Investigations led to the arrest of the stepfather, whom the student claimed owned the weapon. However, the stepfather denied ownership, saying the pistol belonged to his late uncle and had been left in a room later occupied by the student.
The pair are charged under Section 192 of Ghana’s Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), which prohibits unlawful possession of firearms. Their pleas were not taken, and the case has been adjourned to June 17, 2025.
