By Elizabeth PUNSU, Kumasi
The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has thrown his weight behind the government’s initiative to revitalise the country’s poultry industry, describing it as a crucial intervention to curb Ghana’s over-reliance on foreign currency.
Delivering a speech on behalf of the Asantehene at the 22nd Ashanti Business and Financial Services Excellence Awards and the 15th Ashanti Business Leaders Excellence Awards held in Kumasi, the new Edubiasehene, Nana Oguahyia Oduro Panin Birikorang I, emphasised that a rejuvenated poultry sector would help satisfy domestic demand, reduce poultry imports and generate employment opportunities for the youth.
“Expanding local poultry production will generate employment opportunities and save our nation the colossal amounts of foreign currency spent annually on imported poultry products,” he said.
Commendation for awardees
The Asantehene also commended award recipients for their perseverance and resilience in the face of a challenging economic climate. He urged them to maintain their determination in pursuing business success.
“As business leaders, be courageous and undeterred by setbacks. All successful entrepreneurs have faced adversity. It is vital to rise, try again and pursue your business goals with determination,” he advised.
He further underscored the significance of teamwork and workforce motivation, likening a successful enterprise to a championship.
