Empress Gifty sues Agradaa for GH₵20m for defaming her

Gospel musician Empress Gifty has filed a lawsuit against Evangelist Patricia Asiedu, also known as Nana Agradaa, over allegedly defamatory statements made on social media.

In the lawsuit, Empress Gifty is seeking 20 million cedis in damages from the pastor.

According to the writ, the Plaintiff (Empress Gifty) says that on May 13, 2025 the Defendant (Nana Agradaa) who seems to have a disagreement with the Plaintiff’s husband (Hopeson Adorye) took to her social media handles (Facebook, TikTok, and YouTube) and in a live broadcast and attacked the Plaintiff’s husband.

The writ further indicates that “in their natural and ordinary meaning, the words complained of were understood to mean that:

a) The Plaintiff is promiscuous and a prostitute.

b) The Plaintiff is a zoophile who flirts with dogs to earn her money to cater for her husband.

c) The Plaintiff is an adulterous or an unchaste wife who has extramarital affairs with other men, and most of her paramours are pastors.

d) Pastors who invite the Plaintiff to their programs have sexual intercourse with her in their offices before the Plaintiff mounts the pulpit to sing.

e) The Plaintiff is an imbecile.

The lawsuit claims that Nana Agradaa’s live broadcast sparked a wave of online backlash against Empress Gifty, with other social media users sharing and commenting on the content. 

As a result, the allegedly defamatory statements have spread globally, appearing on various news portals and social media platforms, and continue to harm Empress Gifty’s reputation.

She further indicates that the widespread effect of the Defendant’s words on the Plaintiff is that she has become the subject of discussion on media outlets locally and internationally, and has affected her children, who are taunted and ridiculed by their mates in school.

The lawsuit filed by Empress Gifty against Nana Agradaa alleges that the live broadcast made by the latter had far-reaching consequences, extending beyond the initial audience to a global online platform. (Read Jennifer Lopez sued for posting photos of herself)

According to the plaintiff, the defendant’s decision to broadcast her statements on social media platforms such as Facebook, TikTok, and YouTube enabled other bloggers and social media influencers to capture and share the content with their own followers in real-time.

As a result, the allegedly defamatory words spoken and published by Nana Agradaa have become widely disseminated across the internet, transcending geographical boundaries and reaching a vast audience worldwide. 

The statements have been extensively shared, reposted, and commented upon on various online news portals and social media platforms, generating a significant amount of online backlash against Empress Gifty.

Empress Gifty asserts that the damage to her reputation is ongoing, and she is seeking 20 million cedis in damages from Nana Agradaa as compensation for the harm caused by her alleged defamatory statements.
