The event, taking place at the Guangdong Olympic Stadium, serves as the official qualification route to Tokyo, with the top 14 teams in each relay event securing automatic berths. Ghana has been drawn in Heat 1 of the men’s 4x100m relay, alongside sprint giants Great Britain & Northern Ireland and France, as well as Korea, Colombia, and Poland—making for a fiercely competitive lineup. Only the top two teams in the heat will earn automatic qualification. Ghana Athletics in statement on May 8, 2025, confirmed the relay squad, which comprises Joseph Paul Amoah, Sean Nana Awere Kweku Safo-Antwi, Ibrahim Fuseini, Barnabas Aggerh, and Mustapha Alufar Bokpin. The team combines seasoned talent and youthful promise, led by Amoah—Ghana’s 200m gold medallist at the 2023 African Games and the first Ghanaian sprinter to win the event. Under the guidance of experienced coach George Sanford Pincock, the team arrived in Guangzhou on Thursday with strong momentum. Fuseini, Aggerh, and Bokpin have all impressed in recent indoor competitions, and the group believes they have what it takes to secure a Tokyo ticket. Ghana’s participation in the Guangzhou Relays reinforces its ambitions of reclaiming its place among global sprinting elites, buoyed by its improved standing in the World Athletics rankings. According to event organisers, 734 athletes from 43 countries will compete in the two-day meet in Guangzhou. Ghana’s Heat 1 contest promises to be one of the most anticipated of the competition, as the team fights for qualification against some of the world’s sprinting powerhouses.
