Ebi Bright confirmed as first female Mayor of Tema – Nsemkeka

Ebi Bright has been officially confirmed as the mayor (Metropolitan Chief Executive) of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly, following a successful vote of approval by assembly members.

Out of 31 votes cast, 28 voted “Yes”, while 3 voted “No”, securing her confirmation as the 8th mayor and the first female to hold the position in the history of the Assembly.

The confirmation ceremony, held at the assembly hall, was attended by several dignitaries, including Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, Member of Parliament for South Dayi in the Volta Region, who also serves as the Majority Chief Whip in Parliament.

The atmosphere was filled with jubilation as party members and supporters celebrated this milestone.

In her acceptance speech, Ebi Bright expressed profound gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for the nomination, as well as to the cabinet, assembly members, government appointees, and the people of Tema for their confidence in her leadership.

“Tema has been my home. I grew up here and received my education here. It is an honour and a privilege to serve the community that raised me,” she stated.

She also acknowledged the support of her family and faith: “I thank my husband, and above all, I thank God for this opportunity to lead.”

With her confirmation, Ebi Bright becomes the first woman to lead the Tema Metropolitan Assembly, marking a historic moment for the city.

She was sworn in by the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo, who also serves as the Member of Parliament for the Tema Metropolitan Assembly.
