43-Year-Old Barber Found Dead in Effia-Kwesimintsim Barbershop – GhArticles.com

Residents of the Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipality were left in shock on Sunday, June 8, 2025, following the discovery of a lifeless body inside a barbershop at New Site. The deceased, identified as 43-year-old James Opoku, popularly known as Nana Yaw, was found dead under mysterious circumstances inside his shop, Time Enterprise.

The discovery was made after his wife, Christina Mensah, grew worried when repeated calls to her husband went unanswered. Concerned, she asked their son, Shadrach, to visit the shop and collect his daily pocket money.

According to Shadrach, the shop’s containerized entrance was locked from the inside. Despite persistent knocking and calling out, there was no response. Upon gaining access, he found his father unresponsive and lying near the door.

“There were signs of a struggle,” Shadrach told Connect FM. “He seemed to have crawled from the mattress toward the door before collapsing.”

Christina Mensah confirmed that Opoku had been sleeping in the shop in recent weeks due to multiple break-ins. “Thieves had broken in several times, so he started staying overnight to prevent further theft,” she said.

She added that her husband showed no signs of illness prior to the incident. “He was healthy and full of life. I don’t know what took his life,” she stated, noting that their third child had visited him at the shop the night before his death.
