“24-Hour Economy To Officially Start July 1; Tema, Takoradi Harbours To Run 24-Hour Operations”- Prez. John Mahama – GhArticles.com
President John Dramani Mahama has announced that the Tema and Takoradi ports will soon operate on a 24-hour basis, as part of the national 24-hour economy policy set to roll out officially on July 1, 2025.
Speaking at the ongoing Ghana Horticulture Expo on Wednesday, June 11, the President emphasized the importance of logistics and exports in driving economic growth.
“We are implementing a game-changing strategy the 24-hour economy,to unlock Ghana’s production potential across all sectors,” President Mahama stated. “From July 1, the 24-hour Economy policy will be ready to go into operation.”
The initiative is designed to boost productivity and revenue by encouraging continuous economic activity, particularly in high-impact sectors such as agribusiness and exports.
Mahama highlighted the specific benefits for the horticulture industry, noting that the policy will improve the speed and efficiency of transporting perishable produce like pineapples, vegetables, and herbs to international markets.
> “This policy provides a framework for ongoing production, processing, and logistics in horticulture,” he explained. “It ensures that perishable goods move swiftly from farms to foreign shelves, reducing losses and maximizing value.”
He further revealed that the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Agri-Business, along with the Ministry of Transport, is working closely with the Ghana Revenue Authority, the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, and the Ghana Shippers’ Council to implement the 24-hour operations at Tema and Takoradi ports.
